5 Reasons Fall Is the Perfect Time to Renovate Your Kitchen

There’s something about fall that makes you look at your home a little differently.

Maybe it’s the first morning you reach for a sweatshirt. Maybe it’s the leaves piling up outside. Or maybe it’s the realization that, for the next several months, you’re going to be spending a lot more time indoors.

And as life starts moving back inside, you tend to notice things.

Like the kitchen drawer that has to be lifted just right before it will close. The corner cabinet where perfectly good cookware goes to disappear. The island that somehow manages to be too small for meal prep and too big for everyone to walk around without bumping into each other.

If you’ve spent another summer thinking, “Someday, we really need to redo this kitchen,” fall might be a good time to turn someday into today.

Here are five reasons why.

1. Winter Is Coming. You Might as Well Enjoy Where You Spend It.

We’re not going to sugarcoat this one. Winter around here can be long.

Once the temperatures drop and the snow starts flying, home becomes the place where we cook, gather, entertain, do homework, drink coffee and occasionally stare out the window wondering why we chose to live somewhere that gets dark before dinner.

A kitchen that works well makes all of that a little better.

Fall is a natural time to think about how your home serves you during the months when you use it most. Maybe that means creating a larger island where everyone can gather. Maybe it’s finally adding enough storage to clear off the countertops. Or maybe the entire layout needs another look.

Whatever it is, improving the heart of your home can change how you experience the whole house.

2. Gathering Season Has Arrived

The kitchen has a funny habit of becoming the most crowded room in the house.

You can have a perfectly good living room ten feet away, but when friends and family come over, where does everyone end up?

Right next to the person trying to pull something hot out of the oven.

A thoughtfully designed kitchen accounts for that.

Good remodeling is about thinking through how people move through a space. Where will someone sit while dinner is being made? Can two people cook without constantly stepping around each other? Is there a natural place to set out food? Can someone grab a drink without entering the middle of the cooking zone?

Those details might not be the first things you notice in a beautiful kitchen, but they’re often the reason you enjoy living in it.

3. Those Little Annoyances Aren’t Going Anywhere

Every kitchen has its quirks.

Sometimes they’re charming.

Sometimes they make you wonder who decided the dishwasher and refrigerator should open directly into each other.

If you’ve lived with your kitchen for a while, you probably already have a mental list of what you’d change. Not enough storage. Poor lighting. Awkward appliance locations. Limited prep space. An island that creates a bottleneck. Cabinets designed for approximately 40% of the things you actually own.

A custom kitchen renovation gives you the opportunity to solve those problems instead of designing around them.

4. A Little More Light Goes a Long Way

Fall around here is beautiful.

It is not, however, famous for an abundance of daylight.

As the days get shorter, lighting becomes even more important inside your home. And in a kitchen, one overhead fixture usually isn’t going to cut it.

A well-designed lighting plan layers different types of light throughout the space. Task lighting makes chopping vegetables and reading recipes easier. Pendants can define an island or gathering area. Ambient lighting helps the entire room feel warm and inviting.

Pair that with thoughtful finishes, colors and natural light, and a kitchen can feel completely different, even at 4:30 on a January afternoon.

5. You’re Investing in Everyday Life

There are plenty of home projects you appreciate occasionally.

A kitchen isn’t one of them. You use it every single day.

It’s where coffee gets made before anyone is fully awake. It’s where groceries get dropped after a long day. It’s where pancakes happen on Saturday mornings, where homework spreads across the island and where conversations continue long after dinner is finished.

That’s why we believe a successful kitchen renovation should do more than look good.

It should make everyday life better.

The right kitchen feels like it belongs in the home, not like it was dropped in from a showroom. It reflects the architecture, the people who live there and the way they want to live.

Of course, it should look pretty great, too.

Thinking About Your Kitchen Differently?

You don’t need to have every cabinet picked out or know exactly what you want before starting a conversation.

Maybe you know your current kitchen isn’t working, but you aren’t sure how to fix it. Maybe you’ve been saving ideas for years. Or maybe you’re finally ready to get serious about the renovation you’ve talked about every fall since 2019.

We can work with that.

At Bruckelmyer Brothers, we design and build custom spaces around the people who call them home. From better layouts and smarter storage to craftsmanship you’ll appreciate for years, our goal is to create a kitchen that works beautifully for your life.

Ready to rethink your kitchen? Let’s start the conversation.
