| Lakewood Township
This residential remodeling project in Lakewood Township began late January 2007. Originally, this home overlooking Lake Superior was a ranch style on a walkout basement. However, our clients needed to add more space for their growing family. After much input from Bruckelmyer Brothers, Owners and Architect, the final plans were ready. The slab floor in the existing attached garage was removed to accommodate a new slab with in-floor heat tubing and floor drains. The new second story is also complete in floor heat system, accomplished with hot water tubes installed under the sub-floor. Demolition included removal of most interior walls on the main floor. All of the ceiling drywall and attic insulation was taken out along with electrical wiring where it was necessary. On the exterior, siding, main level windows, doors, and complete existing roof system were removed. Due to the complex angles of the existing foot print, the planning phase for the second floor was extensive. Attic trusses were used for much of the new second floor but, in the great room, with its ceiling’s peak close to 27 feet high, hand framing was required using S.W.I. rafters. On the walk-out basement side of the home, which faces toward Lake Superior, multiple tier decks were constructed with square stone support pillars. A large open ceiling screen room, also on the lake side, adds additional outdoor living space. The exterior was completely redone with stone, fiber cement siding, and Marvin windows and doors. The covered front entry roof was later redesigned adding beams which were built and finished by our millwork team. Custom cabinetry, closet organizers, benches and lockers all designed and built in our cabinet shop provide a quality finish to the new interior. |
