Our Client on the hillside in Duluth, Minnesota, taking advantage of their awesome home site wanted to upgrade their home with an extensive remodel project. Starting out with, flattening the driveway, and all the way through, creating a second story with a large library, looking out over Duluth, & Lake Superior.

The Master Suite was crowded and a bit hard to use, ceilings in bathroom were low, Kitchen was small and out dated, garage needed to expand, entry too small, and rear deck needed updating.

Working from plans provided by a local Architect Bruckelmyer Brothers with our team of employees, and Sub-Contractors started this remodeling project in the Middle of October 2006,  (we feel winter construction season is a great time for remodeling) especially when removing roof systems and trying to protect existing structures, and finishes.

There are many challenges in any remodeling project, and this was no exception. Immediately upon start of excavation it was realized that the driveway would need to be cut through ledge rock that did not show, our excavator was able to rent a hammer tip for removing the rock, and the excavating continued on schedule.

As soon as our carpenters started to work on site, the Client was encouraged to meet with our cabinetry, and interior finish designer to lay out Kitchen details, baths, library, closet systems, etc. to insure window locations, door locations, room sizes, were all as accommodating as possible for function and style. Providing our own Custom cabinetry, Closet systems, etc. makes the process much easier for our Client. With our Custom design software we provide 3-D design of all important areas within the home, with colors, lighting, wood species, etc. While the structure is being altered and new areas being built, the finish pieces are being fabricated in our state of the art Wood Shop.
 On this particular project the Clients expressed that the existing heating/cooling system was cumbersome, and uncomfortable. (It had three different air conditioners) Converting the heat system from part electric, and part oil furnace, to a natural gas high efficiency furnace, and one central Air conditioning system, along with super insulating the new structure, made a lot of sense.  The electrical service was moved & updated to allow for the kitchen to be added to. Original plans showed a different siding going on upper level addition, after some discussion we both agreed (Client/Contractor) that matching existing would tie in the additions better.   The flexibility we offer to our Clients, is one of the big advantages of hiring us.

The Lighthouse Restaurant:  This project began in Dec. 2006 just before Christmas.  This unique wood frame building is between Hwy 61 and The Scenic drive North of Duluth Minnesota on the North Shore of Lake Superior.  In trying to capture the feel of the lighthouses of old this unique design incorporates some real interest in all phases of construction.  A middle of the winter start to any project can be a challenge in Northern Minnesota.  Bruckelmyer Brothers has the E-3000 Ground Heater, this was used to keep frost from causing problems when the foundation work was being done.  A mild start to our winter was also a big help.  Stop in and dine in this unique family restaurant.
